    on Dubai Metro 2026

The 2024 ban has been lifted! Learn the strict new rules for carrying your personal mobility devices on the metro and tram.

By Sheikh Suleman Updated March 2026

After a brief period of restriction in 2024, the RTA has reintroduced the permission to carry foldable e-scooters and bicycles on the Dubai Metro. However, this comes with a strict set of technical requirements and a new mandatory permit system for 2026.

    E-Scooter Requirements 2026??

    Foldability

Scooters must be fully foldable and have no seat. Non-foldable models are strictly banned.

    Size & Weight

    Max dimensions: 120cm x 70cm x 40cm. Maximum weight: 20kg.

    Strict Banned Actions

    • No Charging: Charging batteries inside any station or train is prohibited.
    • No Riding: Never ride the scooter inside stations, corridors, or on platforms.
    • No Wet Devices: Scooters must be clean and completely dry to enter.
    • No Dual-Batteries: Modified or dual-battery systems are banned for safety.

Permit & Gates: How to Travel?

As of January 2026, users must follow these operational protocols:

    1

    Mandatory Permit

Apply for a free E-Scooter Permit via the RTA Dubai App. You must show this to inspectors if requested.

    2

    Use Wide Gates

Always enter and exit through the Wide/Handicap gates. Do not use the standard narrow turnstiles.

    3

    Storage Area

Once onboard, place your device in the designated luggage area at the end of the cabin. Do not block aisles or doors.

    What about Bicycles??

Rules for bicycles are slightly different from e-scooters:

    • Only Foldable Bicycles are allowed inside trains.
    • Must be stowed in the luggage compartment.
    • Non-foldable bikes must be parked in the racks available outside all stations.
